Testing to be done on Franklin Park parcel

Two wells will be dug in Franklin Park to determine whether chemicals have seeped off a former industrial site. Village trustees have approved letting the Danahar Corp. dig two wells on the former Joslyn property. Danahar bought the Joslyn Corp. several years ago, which used to operate a 30-acre site bordered by Grand and Franklin avenues, and Willow and Martens streets. From the 1920s to 1970, Joslyn treated railroad ties and telephone poles with creosote, pentachlorophenol and copperchromium-arsenic on the site. Community Bank of Oak Park River Forest has announced that West Suburban PADS is the recipient of Community Bank’s Champion Grant. The purpose of the Champion Grant is to assist organizations in providing community outreach programs for low- or moderate-income individuals. Founded in 1992, West Suburban PADS is the only agency whose sole purpose is to end homelessness in Cook County’s 20 near-west suburban communities.
