Shaving heads for cancer research

Updated: April 1, 2013 7:10AM

Once again District 212 students and staff are taking part in the annual St. Baldrick’s Foundation fundraiser.

This year’s event will be Wednesday, March 20 at West Leyden High School in Northlake. Last year, Leyden participants raised more than $14,000 for pediatric cancer research.

West Leyden first took part in the St. Baldrick’s event in 2008. Since then, the East and West campuses have combined forces and raised a total of $59,860.

Students and staff raise money by having their head shaved in a show of support for those battling pediatric cancer. Money raised goes toward research to find a cure for childhood cancers.

St. Baldrick’s Foundation is one of the world’s largest volunteer-driven organizations, dedicated to raising funds for research into the pediatric cancers that impact thousands of children world-wide.

For more information about the event at West Leyden call volunteer event organizer Tim R. Dykes at (847) 451-3032 or email tdykes@leyden212.org. For info on the foundation, visit www.stbaldricks.org. ~.
