District 212 hosts incoming freshmen

West Leyden on Jan. 23

Eighth-graders slated for admission to West Leyden High School this fall will be offered a taste of high school during an open house for prospective students next week.

The event, which will be held at both campuses, is for all incoming freshmen and their parents.

“Taste of West” will be held at 7 p.m. Jan. 23, beginning in the school’s auditorium, 1000 N. Wolf Road, Northlake. There also will be a session in Spanish held concurrently in the Eagle’s Wing.

After welcoming remarks and a presentation which includes the mandatory parent Chromebook meeting, incoming students and their families will have the opportunity to learn about the registration process, explore the school and meet with staff members. Students also will have time to gather information about core program classes and elective courses. This information is available to help prospective students make decisions concerning course selections when they register.

East Leyden on Jan. 24

Eighth-graders slated for admission to East Leyden High School will have their “Taste of East” at 7 p.m. Jan. 24, beginning in the school’s auditorium, 3400 Rose St., Franklin Park.

The event is for all incoming freshmen and their parents.

After a brief presentation that will include a special focus on Leyden’s 1:1 initiative, incoming students and their families will go to the field house where they will have the opportunity to learn about core program classes, elective courses, ACCESS and athletics.

Representatives from each department will be available to discuss course options with students and family members. This information is available to help prospective students make decisions concerning course selections when they register.
