Exceptional Eagle Breakfast at East

The following students at East Leyden High School, 3400 Rose St., Franklin Park, were honored at the Exceptional Eagle Breakfast, Thursday, Dec. 13 at the school. The monthly breakfast is held to recognize students for their extraordinary effort, special achievements and academic excellence. Parents and nominating teachers also are invited to attend.

East Illinois Sta teScholars named

The Illinois Student Assistance Commission has announced the names of the 2013-2014 Illinois State Scholars. In Illinois, 18,863 students from 749 high schools were recognized as Illinois State Scholars. District 212 has a total of 50 students who qualify as State Scholars.

Illinois’ top students elect to have test scores and high school class rank sent to ISAC for consideration in the popular program. Seniors who rank in the top 10 percent of the state’s high schools are designated as Illinois State Scholars and receive a Certificate of Achievement for their outstanding academic performance. Selection is based on SAT, ACT and/or Prairie State Achievement Exam test scores, and/or class rank at the end of junior year.

Named to the first quarter honor roll

The following local students at St. Joseph High School, 1840 Mayfair Ave., Westchester, were named to the Honor Roll for the first quarter of the 2012-2013 academic year.

Named to the A Honor Roll were KeTyra Saunders, of Elmwood Park, Class of 2014, and Kietta Saunders, also of Elmwood Park, Class of 2014.

EPHS Illinois StateScholars named

The Illinois Student Assistance Commission has announced the names of this year’s students honored as Illinois State Scholars. The Illinois State Scholar Program recognizes Illinois high school students for outstanding academic achievement. The Commission has announced that 21 students at Elmwood Park High School, 8201 W. Fullerton Ave., have been named Illinois State Scholars.

Students ranking in the top 10 percent of the state’s high school graduating seniors have been named Illinois State Scholars. Rankings are based on a combination of ACT and/or SAT I test score results and class rank at the end of the sixth semester in high school. While the program does not provide a monetary award, the designation as an Illinois State Scholar can be listed on applications for college admission and scholarships.
