Franklin Park Scouts earn awards

Franklin Park’s Boy Scout Troop 158, sponsored by the Franklin Park Kiwanis, recently held its January Court of Honor.
Merit Badges were awarded to: Giovanni Diomede for Family Life; Zac Geneva, Tim Hester, Jimmy Novak, Zac Seymore, Junior Vega and Jeremy Mazur for Backpacking; Gren Mendoza, Pat Shelton, Jacob Wason and Dylan Pedersen for Personal Fitness; Graham Pedersen for Camping and Personal Fitness; Jimmy Rasmussen for Camping; Geoffrey Sarno for Citizenship in the World; Joey Strzelecki for Backpacking, Emergency Preparedness, Environmental Science, Personal Fitness and Personal Management; and Ben White for Backpacking, Environmental Science and Personal Management.
Several scouts also achieved advancement to the next rank. Giovanni Diomede and Dylan Pedersen earned the rank of Tenderfoot Scout. Dylan Pedersen, Graham Pedersen and Jimmy Rasmussen earned the rank of Second Class Scout, and Jacob Wason earned the rank of Life Scout.
Additionally, three scouts finished their Eagle projects: Ben White’s “Recycling on the Run” project involved shoe recycling to benefit Soles for Souls and was supported by the Park District of Franklin Park. Pat Shelton’s project involved building benches and creating a garden at St. Gertrude Church and was supported by the Franklin Park Kiwanis and Knights of Columbus. Joey Strzelecki’s project involved creating and labeling two walking paths in Franklin Park for the Let’s Move Program and was supported by the village of Franklin Park, Johnson Sign Co. and Olson’s Ace Hardware.
