First day of spring won’t be very springlike

Wednesday may mark the spring equinox on the calendar, but it’s not going to feel much like springtime outside. Not for quite a while it seems.
Wednesday will be chilly with a high in the 20s, according to Kevin Birk, meteorologist with National Weather Service in Romeoville.
“It’s not going to be very nice at all,” he said.
Snow showers are possible in the afternoon and the wind chill will likely be down in the single digits, according to the weather service.
Spring isn’t likely to make an appearance for the next couple weeks, Birk said. Temperatures are only expected to reach the high 30s this week, and a snowstorm is possible towards the end of the weekend.
March temperatures in Chicago are typically in the upper 40s and this weather is “abnormally cold,” Birk said.
Last March was “incredible,” Birk said, with eight days of temperatures in the 80s. March 21 marked the high, with a temperature of 87.
