The former Unilever property is popular with others besides the village government of Franklin Park.
Jeff Eder, director of community development in Franklin Park, confirmed that the village has had at least one offer on the property since buying it.
The village bought the 13-acre property kitty-corner to Village Hall for $2.1 million. In the next year, the village aims to build a police station. In the longer term, the village government is considering a government campus on the property.
The village is in the process of demolishing the former Unilever buildings.
Village Attorney Joe Montana declined to give specifics on the offer, which was discussed by village officials in closed session. He did say it was through a real estate broker and that on closer examination, the offer wasn’t as good as it first looked.
“(The offer) had so many contingencies and what ifs, I don’t think it was very practical,” Montana said.
Meanwhile, expect demolition of the Unilever buildings to continue.
“We’re not dropping the police station plans,” Eder said.
