Northlake firefighters were called to put out a chimney fire last week on the 300 block of East Whitehall Avenue.
A chimneystack – the part of the chimney above the roof – located on the west side of the house caught on fire between 7:30 and 8 p.m. Jan. 25 at 375 E. Whitehall.
“One of the family members went outside and noticed it,” Fire Chief Rob Hjelmgren said.
The family member called 911.
Firefighters took only a few minutes to extinguish the fire using water from a fire engine.
“It went quickly,” Hjelmgren said. “There’s not extensive damage.”
No one was injured in the incident.
It’s not clear how the chimney started on fire. Chimney sweeps had been out just a few weeks ago to clean it, Hjelmgren said.
