Franklin Park resident Mark White and his daughters Maggie, 15, and Katie, 12, look forward to attending the Park District’s Daddy Daughter Dance each year. They’re not alone.

The event is so popular that it’s being held on two nights this year, 7-9:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10 and 6:30-9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11 at the Centre at North Park, 10040 Addison St.

“The event is like a birthday or Christmas — and it’s Valentine’s Day weekend,” White said. “The girls especially love to get dressed up and dance with me and their friends.”

“Last year, more than 230 dads and daughters danced all evening to music ranging from ‘Butterfly Kisses’ to Miley Cyrus’ ‘Party in the U.S.A.,’” said Program Manager Phyllis Schmidt. “The event features a buffet dinner from Como Catering, dessert and a photo to remember the evening.”

Tickets are $30 per couple for residents, $40 for nonresidents, $15 per additional sibling.

The snack is back

... and a whole lot more, 9:30 a.m.-noon Saturdays, Jan. 21-March 10 during Donuts for Dads at River Forest Public Library, 735 Lathrop Ave. Despite the name, the event is open to moms and grandparents, too. There’s a storytime by the fireplace at 10:30 a.m.; books, games and crafts in the Meeting Room; and breakfast treats and coffee.

“Pooh” is new

Owl sends the gang on — dare we say it — a wild goose chase to save Christopher Robin in “Winnie the Pooh.” The 2011 animated Disney film will be screened at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21 at the Maze Branch of the Oak Park Public Library, 845 Gunderson Ave.

Limited time offer

Elmwood Park Public Library’s themed storytimes are so popular that there are waiting lists for all the January ones except Hansel & Gretel, 4-5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30 at 1 Conti Pkwy. Register early so your 4-to-7-year old can hear different versions of that fable and work on a related craft.

For details, call (708) 453-7645 or visit www.elmwoodparklibrary.org.

Free for all

There’s no better time to visit Brookfield Zoo, 1st Ave. and 31st St., than now through the end of February. That’s because admission is free on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Word has it that many of the zoo’s animals are active in winter.
