Northlake man gets 45 years for killing stepfather

A Northlake man was sentenced to 45 years in prison Wednesday for shooting his stepfather to death in 2010.
Lorenzo Mercado-Perez, 34, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and was sentenced by Judge Noreen Love at the Maywood courthouse, Cook County State’s Attorney’s office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton said.
Prosecutors said Mercado-Perez shot his stepfather, Jose Diaz, multiple times on March 25, 2010, in their Northlake home.
A motive to the killing was not discussed.
